We check in with TOUR Mates and PXG Troops Pat Perez and Joel Dahmen for a quick fire round of questions that’ll have you laughing from the get-go.

Video Transcript

Pat Perez: Don’t get too creative, I got things to do.

HOW MANY HOURS PER WEEK DOES YOUR TOUR MATE PRACTICE?

It should be a short answer, not a lot of writing.

Joel Dahmen: Okay. What did you get me for?

Pat Perez: 15 hours.

Joel Dahmen: 15 hours? Yeah, right.

Pat Perez: I mean I gave you three days of playing, a little bit of practice. It’s 12 hours and three rounds.

Joel Dahmen: Yeah, I mean I probably play twice.

Pat Perez: See?

Joel Dahmen: Probably play twice and maybe another couple of hours. You’re getting close, right?

Pat Perez: Closer.

Joel Dahmen: I got you down for 18 holes with booze, because I don’t know if that counts as full practice. And then two hours of practice outside of the golf.

Pat Perez: Absolutely correct.

Joel Dahmen: Figured you may be-

Pat Perez: This week could be a little bit more, but as an average week, I played six days between Cancun and Hawaii.

Joel Dahmen: In Hawaii?

Pat Perez: Three days was heavy booze. Cabo doesn’t count.

Joel Dahmen: You play the Pros and Joes, is that was?

Pat Perez: Yeah, I think so. They said it was there. And I played the Jimmy O here.

Joel Dahmen: Oh yeah. That’s all-

Pat Perez: Three days. That was all, there was only three, like three real days. I played before Hawaii.

Joel Dahmen: That’s about… I drank in every one of my rounds.

Pat Perez: Yeah, I used to practice a lot. I don’t like to practice that much.

Joel Dahmen: Yeah, that’s all right. 15 hours, that’s yeah, two rounds, a little bit of practice.

Pat Perez: I gave you, yeah. Close enough.

HOW OFTEN DOES YOUR TOUR MATE CUT HIS HAIR?

Joel Dahmen: Clearly, Pat doesn’t really cut his hair very often. So I went with “he trims it” three times a year.

Pat Perez: It’s pretty accurate.

Joel Dahmen: I feel like you’d get around the edges and you’d make sure the flow is proper.

Pat Perez: Oh yeah, I actually have to cut it, it’s like a drape right now.

Joel Dahmen: Okay, it’s a little long now.

Pat Perez: It’s actually got to be… See how it starts to bunch, I got to lighten it up a little bit. I got every three weeks.

Joel Dahmen: Probably more like five or six, I did-

Pat Perez: So it doesn’t grow that fast.

Joel Dahmen: Well, I just cut it last week, so.

Pat Perez: And then before that?

Joel Dahmen: It was a long time ago.

Pat Perez: That the first one of the year?

Joel Dahmen: Yeah.

Pat Perez: Figured it’d be like three weeks. It’s high and tight.

Joel Dahmen: No, I let it grow.

Pat Perez: You can always tell by the neck.

Joel Dahmen: Yeah, it’s fresh. It is a fresh trim.

Pat Perez: That’s about right, three times a year. Because once it starts to hang on my shoulder, that’s when I can’t stand it. Yeah. If it was straight, I would actually cut it once a year, I would just let it go. But it doesn’t get straight it gets bunchy. I don’t like it, but wife likes it so what can I do?

HOW DOES YOUR TOUR MATE UNWIND AFTER A ROUND?

Joel Dahmen: Little boozy?

Pat Perez: Little booze, eat, sleep.

Joel Dahmen: I think that’s pretty standard across the board.

Pat Perez: I mean that’s 90% of the TOUR.

Joel Dahmen: Yeah, I got you down for a glass or a bottle of wine, depending on what you shot. And I got you down for good dinner.

Pat Perez: Always good dinner.

Joel Dahmen: You’re a big foodie.

Pat Perez: My big thing is dinner. You only get so many dinners in life, you can’t waste them.

Joel Dahmen: You get seven a week.

Pat Perez: Yeah, exactly. I don’t like breakfast. Breakfast on TOUR is horrible.

Joel Dahmen: It’s the same thing.

Pat Perez: Every day. It’s horrible. Lunch ranges between a two and a seven. Dinner is always a 10 for me, always. That’s because I’m either cooking it or I’m going where it’s nice.

Joel Dahmen: I know if I walk into a restaurant and I see Pat there, I’m probably doing pretty good.

Pat Perez: You’re doing great. You’re doing fantastic. Life is too short for bad dinners. Don’t waste your time.

Joel Dahmen: Fair. We’ve had enough omelets in our day.

Pat Perez: Powder eggs, same bacon all the time.

Joel Dahmen: And then they give you some yogurt with some…

Pat Perez: Parfait?

Joel Dahmen: Yeah, parfait stuff.

Pat Perez: Nah, it’s out for me.

WHICH PXG TROOP WOULD YOUR TOUR MATE PICK TO PLAY A CRUCIAL SHOT?

Joel Dahmen: Better be me. I said he’d pick himself because I thought I’d know. I thought about you’d pick Zach, he’s closed out a bunch of victories at a couple majors.

Pat Perez: Zach has. Zach is definitely one of our strongest ones for sure.

Joel Dahmen: Yeah, but I figured you’d probably just pick yourself because you trust yourself to get it done.

Pat Perez: I would. Like Kobe did. Kobe would say trust nobody better but himself.

Joel Dahmen: Well, that’s a good quality to have.

Pat Perez: You think Tiger would pick anybody else? No chance.

WHAT’S THE FIRST WORD THAT COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF YOUR TOUR MATE?

Pat Perez: Fun.

Joel Dahmen: Simple, yeah. I mean I threw party out there for you. I think we need you… It’s not that you just party, but life’s a party for you.

Pat Perez: It is.

Joel Dahmen: You treat it like one, so.

Pat Perez: I do now, I didn’t use to. I used to treat it like miserable work and now it’s actually-

Joel Dahmen: Is that post-injury for you?

Pat Perez: Yeah, that, and plus doing it this long.

Joel Dahmen: A child?

Pat Perez: Yeah, there’s so many different things that change. When you get to my age now and playing, it’s different. It’s just life is different, golf is different. You know, I mean I only have six years with the Champ TOUR, which I can’t wait.

Joel Dahmen: Six years for the Champs TOUR.

Pat Perez: I’m just in a different spot. You know when you’re 32, you’re still really trying to make sure that you get a whole career going, you play long enough and make enough money, and do all these things, and win, and all this kind of stuff. I mean, I’m going to be 44 in a month. This will be my 20th year coming up next year. I mean, I’ve done it all. You know, not that I haven’t done it all, but I mean I’m in just a different spot than it was when I was 30. I look at life way different, you will too.

Joel Dahmen: All right.

Pat Perez: Look at Tiger, Tiger’s done everything there’s possibly to do in the game. And he loves now to play a little bit and hang out with his family and do his thing, which I think is incredible, I think it’s awesome.

Joel Dahmen: Totally changed, for sure.

Pat Perez: I think it’s awesome that he’s that way now.
