Hey guys, this is Ryan Hybl, Head Golf Coach at the University of Oklahoma. Here with me is my Assistant, Bill Allcorn and today we’re going to talk about how we flight wedges.
You know, we’re Oklahoma guys. The wind blows quite a bit where we’re from and so we have to learn how to hit out a little bit lower of a window. Take the spin off of it.
Okay, so Bill’s going to first demonstrate just a stock 140-yard pitching wedge because that’s typically what he hits.
The ball’s going to be right in the middle of his stance. There’s no reason to choke down. We’re going to get the ball up in the air.
Beautiful. Now we’re going to act like we’re back in Oklahoma. It’s breezy. We want to hit this ball 120-125-yards flighted, a little bit lower. So, we’re going to accomplish that by moving the ball a little further back in his stance, choking down just a smidge and having some nice, soft, loose hands and covering the ball, okay? Just think about this club head being a little bit heavier in your hands. And we’re going to hopefully not get this ball up into that higher window.
Beautiful. The spin’s down, flight’s down. That’s getting us 125-yards back into the breeze.
