For golfers looking to improve their game, how important is being fitted for clubs?
It’s very important. Instead of trying to fit your swing to a club, you get your clubs fit to you so you don’t have to work to swing the club. You can focus on playing golf, because golf is hard enough.
What is your practice routine? Does your routine change for majors?
I like to play for my practice. I feel like getting on the course and playing is what works best for me. It’s a good way for me to get a feel for the greens, sand, and turf. I don’t change my routine at all for the majors. I try to approach every tournament the same no matter what the stakes are.
What part of your game do you enjoy practicing most?
I love hitting balls. There is nothing better than standing on the range and hitting balls especially in the late afternoon.
How do you mentally prepare yourself on the tee box with a crowd watching, especially on the first tee?
I like to simplify things as much as possible. I like to envision myself back home at my home course, Shady Oaks, where I have hit thousands of great drives. Taking deep breaths always helps. I have also found that my tendency is that I get a little quick, so I remind myself to focus on tempo and contact.
